A FANGirl's Forkstress of Solitude

Feminist Male College Graduate: Chapter 5

Benjamin Wheeler read Chapter 5, Blood Type, and I can’t wait to read what he wrote. This was one of my favorite chapters in the book. I sorely missed it in the movie. I’ll be back for some commentary once I’ve read his article

I was surprised Benjamin did not write much on Chapter 5. It’s such an important chapter, in my mind. You find out Edward is always watching out for (or just watching) Bella, even when he isn’t supposed to be around. Where else might he be lurking? We find out Bella might have more in common with Edward than we imagined. She has a freaky reaction to blood? We might assume vampires do, too, and that’s why Edward skipped the lab. At one point, she lets Edward know that she can even smell the blood and that’s what makes her sick. For a moment he gets a look on his face. He’s questioning what she is all about, and we start to see a little about why he’s obsessed with her too. He finds her interesting, different.

Twilight Helps Kids Learn

Ok, so anything that gets kids’ interest can help them learn something, but this post is about Twilight. I had a lovely conversation with my niece ‘Peanut’ today. We talked mostly about Twilight because we’re both crazy obsessed. She’s 13, so it’s OK, but me you clearly have to worry about. LOL!

Anyway, she was telling me how she’s the most obsessed at school, but she does have this one friend who is pretty into it. They were lab partners during the same lab that Edward and Bella first did together. They remembered the scene from the book/movie and were actually excited about doing this lab in school. They aced it. In another class they learned about Spanish Influenza. You can imagine they were pretty interested in that, too. The point is that Twilight made a connection to something in real life that might never have interested these two girls, and they took notice. Not only did they take notice but they got better grades than they might have normally. Twilight Moms take notice!
