A FANGirl's Forkstress of Solitude

We shall see…

Dear Bryce Dallas Howard,

Congrats on winning the role of Victoria in Eclipse! I would have picked you if I couldn’t have Rachelle Lefevre, too. Not that you’re second best. I have seen many of your films and think you’re incredible. I look forward to seeing what you do with the role.

Break a leg!  ♥Rabbit

Dear Rachelle,

They did WHAT?!? It’s just not right. With the crazy shooting schedule Summit adopted in their rush to get to the box office you would think they would be a little more clear about non-negotiable dates. It sounds like they are in breach of contract to me. As they were clearly allowing you lot to film in the, what, two months you had off between shoots, they should have advised you of any blackout dates they were not willing to work around. I’m just sayin’. You should get your part back. There are petitions in the works as we speak. I hope lawyers and agents are as busy as the fans.

With hopes you are as tenacious as Victoria and Michelle “Bridezilla” Morgan, ♥Rabbit

Dear Summit,

Are you serious? Do you understand fandom at all? Do you understand that after that hot mess we call Twilight the fans will brook no more crap? Do you understand that the flip side of SQUEE is an angry mob with pitch forks and torches? Don’t for a minute think that you can assume breaking even on this movie. Oh, you’ll have a great opening weekend, but if we can spread the word and get Peter Facinelli a gajillion Twitter friends under a deadline we can certainly arrange seeing your little film once or twice in said weekend and then never again. We know someone will bootleg it and it will be available on the internet within days. We don’t have to pay you. I personally am against bootlegging, but you and I both know that the crappier the movie seems to be or the angrier the audience is, the likelier bootlegging will be. Add to that rabid fandom and you have a bootlegging nightmare on your hands. I beg of you, reconsider. Nobody wins without Rachelle playing Victoria no matter how wonderful Bryce Dallas Howard may be. We love our continuity and we love Rachelle. Besides, 10 days? Really? That just seems petty.

Seriously! ♥Rabbit

Thoughts on the Eve of Comic-Con 2009

Dear New Moon,

Are you worried that you won’t be given the same attention Twilight was given at Comic-Con? I am. Sure, I felt I had already seen Twilight by the time I saw Twilight, with all the video that was posted on YouTube, but spoilers aside, it was fun feeling like I was part of the process. New Moon, you are my favorite of the Twilight Saga. It’s so unfair that they have kept us apart the way they have these many months, being stingy with their news, withholding video from the set, and in general being all closed off and selfish. There are even fewer and fewer blurbs about you in Entertainment Weekly (I bought a subscription just for you) and the folks over there are whores for all things Twilight. I can only hope that at this week’s Comic-Con there will be some great videos of you posted online, especially of the panel, with which I can SQUEE vicariously. I won’t be there again this year, so vicariously is all I have.
Counting the days until we’re together,
Rabbit

On Vampire Lore

I read a lot online about how Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight sucks because it goes against vampire canon. I have to wonder how much the people who say this actually know about vampire lore. I’ve read lots of books and seen lots of movies. Just how many, I have no idea. Vampires have been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember. I’ve never liked the ugly, pure evil, demonic, Nosferatu types. Yep, it’s a demon. Clearly we’re not letting that one in. Stake it if you can. A little too straight forward and blunt for me. I’m not a fan of horror for horror’s sake. For me it’s always been about the sexy ones. That’s where the true terror is. Demons who are good-looking, to whom you might be attracted, with whom you might be friends, who might just kill you, now that’s scary to me. It gives me more to think about. There just tends to be more story there.

Already we are talking about two very different types of vampires. How can canon reconcile this? To understand this I think you have to understand a bit about the history of vampire lore.

In the beginning, vampires were generally undead, walking corpses bent on stealing your life force, usually blood. Most cultures have some form of vampire legend. According to Wikipedia the term vampire did not become popular until the early 18th Century though. At that time there was an increase in vampire superstition in Western Europe from places in Eastern Europe where vampire legends were frequent, such as The Balkans.

Different traditions say different things. The vampire might be a soul not at rest who rises from the grave to cause mischief. It might be a person who made a pact with a sorcerer or witch, trading their soul for immortality or some such thing. It might also be the sorcerer or witch him- or herself. This is what people really thought back in the day. It is largely thought that because graves weren’t marked incredibly well that when bodies were exposed, either through the digging of the new grave or by animals digging, people thought they were seeing vampires who had left their graves. During decomposition hair and nails appear to grow. It’s really just the skin receding, but it gives the appearance of growth, giving anyone not educated in these matters thoughts of the ‘living dead’. Furthermore, gases bloating the body and fluids escaping through the mouth give the impression of the belly being full, having feasted on flesh or blood. Worse yet, the death shroud, being exposed to these fluids, would have been eaten by microbes first, giving the appearance that the corpse itself ate the shroud.

Pretty gruesome stuff, huh? At least it makes sense how we got the whole image of vampires as ugly demons. What about the sexy vampire though? Where does that come from?

FMCG: Chapter 12

It is perhaps fitting that my old friend Benjamin Wheeler begins his thoughts on Chapter 12: Balancing with, “Oh, Twilight, I’ve missed you. Since our last time together I’ve thought about you a lot, watched the movie based on you, cringed at the movie based on you, made fun of the movie based on you. And all of this made my more excited to get back to you, and finally, this windy afternoon, I have.” Benjamin was away for a while when real life called. I have been away too. My brain was too crammed with my new job and new schedule that I haven’t had time to ponder much. Lately, if I’ve had any blog time I’ve spent it over at Letters To Twilight, for the laughs. I have missed Twilight.

I’m sure that anyone who was following this thread is long gone, but I’ll continue on at whatever pace I can manage. My apologies to anyone who is annoyed that I could not keep up. In case you have forgotten the rules, go read his article and then come back for some discussion with me.

I’m with you on the movie, Benjamin. We could spend a lot of blog time on the various levels of horrible there.

We get some suggestion that Edward is comfortable, both ethically and practically, with breaking in Bella’s house. Instead of Bella walking home, Edward tells her (not offers to, mind you) that he will go to her house and retrieve her truck, which will be in the parking lot when she gets out of school. Bella notes that the key “was in the pocket of a pair of jeans I wore Wednesday, under a pile of clothes in the laundry room” (243). This is followed with a rather nonchalant, “Even if he broke into my house, or whatever he was planning, he’d never find it” (243). Have we actually reached so quickly the point in the story at which Bella is okay with Edward breaking into her house without her permission? It seems so.

I didn’t consider it B & E by this point either. Edward had been doing it for months, and Bella and I had had time to adjust to that. Besides, to me it was more like Edward trying to make up for inconveniencing Bella and showing off for her, at the same time. It made Edward more of a mystery to Bella, so win for him.

What really disturbed me about this was that Bella never refers to “keys”. She only ever says her “key”. She carries around her single car key and uses a house key kept under the eave. She never mentions a key ring or a keychain. I wondered why Stephenie Meyer wrote it like this. It’s like Bella considers herself a guest in Charlie’s house even though she comes in an takes charge. I suppose coming in part way through Junior year with, presumably, no intention of staying much past graduation, she must have considered herself a houseguest and endeavored to make her presence minimal.

What Was I Thinking?

Robsten

Robsten

Why didn’t I get this when I saw it in the check-out line today? Oh well, at least I could read about it here. A little blurb for you.

But now that Rob, 23, has successfully wooed Kristen, 19, away from her boyfriend Michael Angarano, one insider wonders where their relationship will go. “For Rob, half the attraction with Kristen was the chase,” the insider reveals. “He pursued her so heavily — being a crazy romantic, proposing marriage and everything. Now that Rob’s with her, it’s just anticlimactic.”

The Host

You asked for it, ArtisticPhilosopher, and you got it. Here’s my blog entry about The Host, by Stephenie Meyer. I figure I can blog about other SMeyer works on my All-Twi-All-The-Time blog. My blog, my rules, and I say it’s close enough.

It had been nearly a year since I read The Host, so I reread it. What the heck. It’s not like I have the money for new books at the mo’. By the way, this is the only non-series book I ever gave a second read. I’ve read Harry Potter and Twilight four times each.

Let’s start with the cover. Read on if you don’t mind a few spoilers…

The Latest on Eclipse and Breaking Dawn Casting

There have been updates. I am reminding you to check my Auditions page. Many of you are finding much older posts, begging for info, and missing the Auditions page completely. I’ve made some arrows pointing at it. I hope that helps.

It seems that in my absence the Main Principal Actor Casting Director was posted and taken down because people were looking up phone numbers and calling the office when they were told NO PHONE CALLS. I’ll post whatever info I find here, but it will only be up as long as I’m allowed to have it up. Please follow the rules Acting411 sets. As I said on my Auditions page, it would be a shame if some really great talent didn’t get a chance to audition because they couldn’t find the info. We want the best movie possible. Please follow the rules.

♥Rabbit

EDIT 17Jun09: This thread is now closed. Please see my Auditions page.

Chemisty On Demand

Thanks mabelyeunice!

I missed the awards (sad face) so I appreciate the speedy posting of clips to the interwebs.

Now, why would you ever shoot these two separately when they can muster such chemistry on demand? BTW, I called Best Kiss during the midnight show. 🙂
