A FANGirl's Forkstress of Solitude

And I’m back!

So, I’m back and ready to discuss Bill Condon directing Breaking Dawn. I never saw Dreamgirls, but it obviously did very well. Who could forget Jennifer Hudson jumping from American Idol to the big screen and winning a Golden Globe and an Oscar her first time out? Only 15 people, including Hudson, have won Oscars for their debut films BTW. While Hudson is undoubtedly an amazing performer, it speaks highly for Condon’s direction that an actor with so little experience could be directed to an award-worthy performance.

The only other film by Condon that I can comment on is Kinsey. I thought it was well done. Most notable here is the portrayal of pain and discomfort that can be caused by sexual relationships that are outside the norm. More important is the message that just because the relationship may be outside the norm doesn’t mean it’s necessarily wrong. The skill with which Condon handled this could come in handy with Breaking Dawn. Now if only he can put some of his writing experience (Dreamgirls, Kinsey, Chicago) to use and “improvise” during filming.

Happy New Year

Yes, it’s been that long since I’ve been around. Very busy these days, me. Sorry to all those people who posted the 20 comments that were pending. You’ve now been approved, even the mean one. I’ll try to come around more often.

New Moon

I dunno how I feel about the movie. I didn’t stay up after the midnight show and write a blog post about how angry it made me just so I could get some sleep, so it’s going that going for it. It still didn’t wow me. It felt like a video book report to me. I can’t wait to see what you all thought, but it will have to wait, and so will a more lengthy review from me. Until I’ve gotten some sleep and seen New Moon for a third time…

A Twilight Kind of Day

I don’t get to geek out too often anymore. Today was a good day. I played Twilight Trivia (NTN) at Pranksters Too and won! I ranked 59th in the Network, too! Then I went to see Where the Wild Things Are and got a reusable Edward Cullen New Moon cup, which gives you get one free refill. Guess when I’ll be getting my refill.

VMA Goodness

Thanks to My Favorite Unicorn and Peanut for reminding me about the VMA’s. Of course they didn’t remind me until today, so I had to watch everything online. That’s ok. I probably would have been annoyed sitting there waiting through endless teasers of, “Coming up…New Moon!”

Here’s the trailer. I don’t know how I feel about it. They pretty much showed us everything didn’t they? I don’t like the reappearance of Carter Burwell’s western Twilight showdown theme. It bothered me at the midnight now of Twilight, and it bothers me knowing I’m about to be bothered again. At least the production values look better…amazing in fact. Anyway here’s the Cliff’s Notes version of New Moon.

And here’s Death Cab For Cutie’s Meet Me on the Equinox. I think I like it. I don’t picture it playing during the movie, but I could be wrong. It just seems like a credits song. Nothing wrong with that.

Thanks, YouTube.  I appreciate you letting watch all these things that I miss when I’m away from the boob tube. And I’ve already forgotten where I got these particular vids. Sorry. I imagine you can figure it out somehow if you need to.

EDIT 19Sep09: Thanks TwilightSaga for the new Death Cab For Cutie vid. The other one got taken down.
